Preparing mind, body - and passport - for an amazing trip

Is it safe?

Check your destination with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade to see if it’s safe, and anything else you need to know, like local laws and customs. When travelling always remember to obey the law. Don't purchase, use or carry illicit drugs. In some countries such as Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore and Thailand drug offences carry the death penalty.

What is Advice Passenger Information, or API?

Your airline may be required by laws in the USA and other countries to give border control agencies access to passenger data, such as passport number and date of birth. Accordingly any information they hold about you and your travel arrangement may be disclosed to the customs and immigration authorities of any country in your itinerary.

Are you insured?

Check that you hold appropriate travel insurance to cover hospital treatment, medical evacuation, cancellation cover, luggage and the kind of activities you plan to take. Overseas medical costs are expensive and Medicare and Australian private health insurance will not cover you outside Australia.

Are you ok to travel?

Pregnancy, recent surgery, epilepsy and fractures are some of the conditions that can affect your fitness to travel, so if you’re in any doubt at all, please check with your Doctor.

Last thoughts

Remember, you should never fly if you've been scuba diving in the last 40 hours, had an anaesthetic or dental treatment in the last 48 hours, or given blood in the last 24 hours.

If in doubt, always check with your doctor.

And finally... enjoy your trip!
